Sam has worked both in the UK and here in Australia delivering therapuetic services to adults, young people and children. Those affected by severe and persistent mental illness, mild to moderate mental illness and those seeking personal or professional growth. She has experience working with individuals, couples, families and groups.
Sam works in a recovery framework using strengths based and solution focused interventions. Sam is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Social Behaviour and Network Therapy, Social Skills Training, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, Relapse Prevention Therapy and Harm Minimisation Strategies.
Although Sam has a strong academic and therotical background she works in a holistic and relationship based way. Sam believes that at times during our lives we can all experience mental ill health or distress and this is just part of the human experience. During these times asking for help can be very difficult but it also improves chances of recovery and decreases relapse rates.
Sam has worked in statutory health settings, not for profit organisations and private practice. She has more recently become interested in animal assisted therapies and particularly equine therapy. As a horse owner and student of natural horsemanship Sam knows the power of the horse-human relationship to teach us about ourselves and help us to recognise and master our emotions.
As life gets busier and our mobile devices encroach more and more into our every waking minute humans are experiencing more anxiety, less satisfaction in their lives and relationships and are feeling more isolated than ever before. Equine Therapy with Sam Spencer provides the opportunity to spend time in nature on her beautiful 40 acre property at the base of Mt Mee in D'Aguilar, QLD connecting with horses and taking time to breathe and soak up the tranquility of your surroundings.
